France, Luxembourg, UK: Speed Cameras Thwarted
European vigilantes use trash bags, hammers, spraypaint and fire to thwart the use of automated ticketing machines.

Vigilantes in Luxembourg did not wait for the newly installed speed cameras to be installed before acting last week. According to Luxemburger Wort, the automated ticketing machine on the N24 in Beckerich had its lens smashed. Ten cameras are scheduled to go live in the area on March 16.

In Revin, France, vigilantes trashed a speed camera on Saturday. L'Union reported that garbage bags were sloppily taped around the automated ticketing machine on the RD8043, ensuring it would not be able to issue citations. In Camiers on Wednesday, red spraypaint covered the speed camera on the D940, according to La Voix du Nord. At around the same time in Saint-Paul-des-Landes, the speed camera on the D120 was disabled with spraypaint and the initials "JA," La Montagne reported.

In Leigh, England last week Monday, vigilantes used a tire to set fire to the speed camera on London Road, the Southend Echo reported.
