France, Saudi Arabia: Speed Camera Destroys Itself
A Saudi speed camera spontaneously combusts while French speed cameras are decorated for Valentine's Day.

Saudi photo radar van burnsVigilantes in Lyon, France celebrated Valentine's Day by decorating ten speed cameras with trash bags and a large cardboard heart labeled "GAZ." The automated ticketing machines so disabled were located on Boulevard Chambaud de Bruyere, Quai Gailleton, Boulevard Stalingrad and Cours Emile Zola in Villeurbanne, Boulevard de l'Europe in Pierre Benite and Nationale 6. The group Federation francaise des motards en colere du Rhone (FFMC 69) took credit.

"We wish a happy Valentine's Day to all road users spared from these armed bandits while they are covered," the group said on Facebook.

In Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, a vigilante knocked over a "Saher" speed camera on the airport road last week. Video of the incident was posted Wednesday on YouTube (view video). In Tabuk, a speed camera van spontaneously caught fire on Saturday (view video of incident). According to Sabq, the radar equipment shorted out and burst into flames. The van driver was not injured.

Photo radar vans have spontaneously combusted all around the world. In Romania, a van caught fire in 2013. In 2010, a camera in Fruitland, Maryland burned itself. Similarly, a camera car burned down a police garage in Colmar, France destroying seventeen patrol vehicles. A photo radar van in North Wales, UK caught fire. A speed camera vehicle in Mount Carmel, Tennessee caught fire and burned down a barn.
