France, New Zealand: Speed Cameras Stoned, Sprayed, Scorched
Fire, foam, spraypaint and rocks keep speed cameras off balance in France and New Zealand.

In Carspach, France, vigilantes on Saturday covered the speed camera on the RD419 with orange spraypaint, Dernieres Nouvelles D'Alsace reported. On Sunday, burning tires were used to destroy the speed camera on the RN 102 in Saint-Georges-d'Aurac, according to Zoom Dici. On Tuesday, the speed camera on the A47 in Saint-Chamond was spraypainted green, Le Progres reported. In Soyaux, polyurethane foam was added to green spraypaint to keep the speed camera on the D1000 from issuing any tickets, according to Charente Libre. A speed camera moved to Ornans had its lens spraypainted blue within a day, Est Republicain reported. A pair of speed cameras on the D607 in Fontainebleau were spraypainted green last week Saturday, Le Parisien reported. Vigilantes in Pinas, France filmed themselves blinding the speed camera on the RD817. According to a statement from police in Hautes-Pyrenees, the video helped them to track down and file charges against the vigilantes.

Police in Waikato, New Zealand posted a video on Facebook Wednesday urging the public to stop throwing rocks at speed camera vans.

"Mary was telling me how there's been quite a few incidents where members of the public have driven past her van and either stopped or just don't even go past and have thrown stuff at the van, which I think is pretty amazing. It's pretty mean."
