Arizona: Freeway Radar Set to Expand
Prescott Valley, Arizona moves to adopt freeway speed camera ordinance to share in the $19 million generated in Scottsdale.

Even before the evaluation period of Scottsdale, Arizona's "experiment" with freeway photo radar is complete, Prescott Valley is looking to expand the use of freeway speed cameras to state highway 69. Scottsdale is expected to temporarily suspend operations in October as it prepares a report showing the system's effectiveness and awaits renewed state permits.

So far, Scottsdale's six speed cameras have generated a tidal wave of cash and the courts have been struggling to cope. As of June 13 only 38,364 citations have been processed out of about 120,000. The total value of the tickets, each running $157-201, is at least $18.8 million.

The Prescott Valley Town Council will vote to adopt a freeway ticketing contract with Australian vendor Redflex on July 27.
