Arizona Considers Freeway Photo Radar Ban
The Arizona legislature is considering a proposal to ban cities from using photo radar on highways.

Loop 101The Arizona legislature is considering a proposal to ban cities from using photo radar on highways. Legislators want to stop Scottsdale, Arizona from using the technology on a local freeway known as Loop 101.

According to Scottsdale officials, "speed crackdowns" on that road by Arizona police have not worked. Both AAA and highway patrol groups are supporting the new legislation which the Arizona Senate Transportation Committee will debate next week.

The numbers would translate to 50,000 to 68,000 violations every day on the Scottsdale segment of Loop 101, to drivers who go 11 mph or more over the 65 mph limit. The city expects the number would drop rapidly to 1,500 to 2,500 drivers a day, or 1.5 percent of drivers, with photo enforcement.
