UK: Man Twice Prosecuted for Offense He Could Not Commit
A retired is twice prosecuted for offenses committed in a car he had sold months ago.

Toyota CorollaLaurie Motherby, a 78-year-old retiree from east Hull, UK sold his car several months ago. Since then, he had received a speed camera ticket in the mail that clearly showed someone else -- the new owner presumably -- driving in June 2004. It took until last month for the charge to be dropped.

Now Motherby is summoned to appear at Goole Magistrates' Court in April because of a camera ticket showing his old Toyota Corolla doing 14 MPH over the limit on September 24, 2004 in addition to a charge for not identifying the driver of the vehicle.

Motherby's wife Doreen told the Hull Daily Mail, "After the last case was quashed I thought that would be it. It was the first time he'd been to court and it was so distressing. He thought about paying the fine this time, just to close the matter - but why should we?"
