San Diego Red Light Camera Defense Team Report
The report to the courts that resulted in San Diego shutting down their camera program for more than a year.

In 2001, 400 motorists banded together with the Red Light Camera Defense Team to challenge the City of San Diego, California on their red light camera program. They won.

Discovering several illegal elements in the city's program, the Team successfully shut down the cameras for more than a year. This report shows the importance of signal timing to curb red light running. It also provides conclusive evidence that the San Diego program put profit first.

The report reveals that intersections selected for the computerized, law-enforcement devices
were selected because the intersections had extremely short yellow lights and high traffic
volume, not because the intersections had high accident rates. Public records confirmed that
none of the intersections selected were among the top intersections in the city with high accident
rates.
