Officials in the Mediterranean island nation of Cyprus are red-faced after paying 11 million Euros (US $13 million) for a ticket camera system that simply does not work. Robot Visual Systems GMBH of Monheim, Germany apparently did not realize that drivers in Cyprus use the left-hand side of the road. The company installed cameras to monitor drivers as if they drove as Germans do on the right-hand side. Some have also questioned whether the digital photographs taken of the front of the vehicle would withstand legal scrutiny.
