UK City Finds More Accidents at Speed Camera Sites
A Blackpool, UK council report finds that several speed cameras actually increased accidents.

Blackpool, UK
Councilors in Blackpool, UK have conducted an independent report on the accidents surrounding the town's speed cameras. As reported in the local press, accidents had increased at 11 of 50 speed camera sites over the previous year.

Councilor Mary Smith, the committee chairman, told the Blackpool Gazette, "It shouldn't be about raising money, it's about saving lives. If the cameras are not reducing accidents, it's not the answer."

The report recommends removing cameras that don't reduce accidents and replacing them with less-intrusive alternatives.

John Davies, project manager of the Lancashire Road Safety Partnership, said: "There are no plans to remove any cameras at the moment.
