Canada: Meter Maids Target High-Profile Funeral
Meter maids target the funeral of a slain teenager to issue $42 CAD parking tickets.

Anastasia De Sousa
Meter maids in Montreal, Canada swooped down on a high-profile funeral attended by the city's mayor and other officials last week, distributing parking tickets to a number of mourners. Around eight hundred had gathered at Our Lady of Czestochowa Church to pray for Anastasia De Sousa, 18, a student killed by a deranged gunman at Dawson College.

Police were on hand to block traffic and direct mourners where to park. Several who followed these instructions found citations on their windshield for parking in a street sweeping zone, even though no sweeping took place until long after the funeral.

"It's unbelievable, what they did," Achille Polcaro told the Montreal Gazette. "It's not like we'd gone shopping or something."

The city refuses to cancel the fines.
