Mesa Police Chief Gets Unfair Speed Camera TicketMesa, Arizona police chief claims he is innocent after being accused by a camera of speeding.
Mesa, Arizona's new top cop, George Gascon was ticketed for speeding by Scottsdale's new freeway speed camera setup on August 7. Gascon claims he's innocent. According to the Scottsdale court website, "If it is determined by the state that you were not the driver, your complaint will be dismissed and a new complaint will then be issued to the appropriate party."
Gascon says he doesn't know which of his daughters was driving the car. Gascon doesn't mind paying the ticket, but assigning the blame means 3 points and higher insurance rates for the recipient. He hasn't decided which family member will take the insurance hit.
Gascon was hired away from the Los Angeles Police Department last June to serve as Mesa's police chief with the offer of a $170,000 annual salary. Gascon has since been a champion for the use of photo ticketing.
